The 2024 Kia EV9 electric large SUV has been revealed ahead of a third quarter 2023 Australian launch. Kia’s largest ever production vehicle, the EV9 sits on the same ‘e-GMP’ platform as the smaller EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Genesis GV60. Using a very similar design to the EV9 concept car of 2021, the production EV9 looks very futuristic and will reportedly cost in excess of AU$90,000 locally.

“The Kia EV9 breaks new ground, aiming to redefine standards for design, connectivity, usability and environmental responsibility,” said Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design Centre.

“The Kia EV9 offers customers an exceptionally high-quality proposition and a fresh EV perspective in the family SUV sector. This new vehicle typology provides instinctive experiences and excellent comfort for not just the driver, but all occupants, through innovative use of space, technology and design.”

Kia is yet to announce any mechanical specifications for the EV9, but it’s rumoured to use a dual-motor set up with up 298kW of power, 651Nm of torque and up to 467km of range on the WLTP cycle – but full specifications will be announced soon. The EV9 will be able to tow a 2,040kg braked trailer – though with a range reduction to 381km. Its claimed 0-100km/h sprint time will apparently be around the 5.0 second mark.

The interior of the 2024 Kia EV9 is also futuristic, with a dual 12.3-inch infotainment and digital driver’s display screen set up that’s separated by a 5.0-inch screen for the air-conditioning controls. Underneath the touchscreen is a cloth panel with integrated buttons for the screen, while other features like a wireless phone charger are located in the centre console.

The second row of captain’s chair seats can swivel 180-degrees to face the rear passengers, while a more traditional second row of seats (for a total capacity of seven) will also be available. The third row features cup holders and USB charging ports.

The 2024 Kia EV9 will go on sale in Australia in the third quarter of 2023, with local pricing and specifications to be confirmed before then. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
