Ahead of local deliveries from September 2023, Aston Martin has revealed the next step in its iconic DB sports car lineup: the 2024 Aston Martin DB12. While not quite an all-new model, rather a heavily revised version of the previous DB11, the DB12 introduces new styling, more performance and a lot more technology to the company’s grand tourer product. Australian pricing is yet to be confirmed, though it’s likely to be higher than the DB11 V8’s $441,700 plus on-road costs price.

According to the company, “Aston Martin is proud to introduce the new DB12. Delivering a quantum shift in sporting character and dynamic capability, this new generation of the legendary DB bloodline defines its own new category. Combining a scintillating driving experience with exceptional refinement, state-of-the-art technology and indulgent luxury, the DB12 demands a new definition. Grand is not enough; this is the world’s first Super Tourer.”

On the outside, the 2024 Aston Martin DB12 is clearly based on the DB11, albeit with a new front end with a larger grille and larger and more aggressive headlights. There are also wider tracks (6mm at the front and 22mm at the rear) and newly smaller side mirrors.

Inside the 2024 Aston Martin DB12 is a much greater design change to the DB11 with a new dashboard, new screens and even a new steering wheel. The former Mercedes-sourced infotainment system has been shelved for a new Aston Martin-developed system on a new 10.25-inch touchscreen that includes an inbuilt eSIM for live updates, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Newly optional is a 1,170-watt 15-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system.

Under the bonnet of the 2024 Aston Martin DB12 is an AMG-sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V8 engine that makes 500kW of power (at 6,000rpm) and 800Nm of torque (between 2,750rpm and 6,000rpm) – that’s 107kW/125Nm more than the DB11 V8 and 30kW/100Nm more than the optional V12 in the DB11. It’s unknown if a V12 will be offered in the DB12, but with a claimed 3.5 second 0-97km/h (0-60mph) sprint time and 325km/h top speed for the DB12, it’s not likely that customers will be wanting more performance. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The DB12’s torsional stiffness has been increased seven per cent compared with the DB11, with improved dynamics coming from changes to the engine cross brace, undertrays, front crossmember, and rear bulkhead, according to the brand. Other dynamic changes include revised steering and a retuned brake booster for improved brake feel.

The 2024 Aston Martin DB12 features huge 21-inch alloy wheels that are covered in Michelin Pilot Sport 5s tyres, as well as 400mm front and 360mm rear brakes – though carbon ceramic brakes are optional and they save 27kg, while the wheels also shave 8kg in mass.

The first deliveries of the 2024 Aston Martin DB12 will commence in the third quarter of 2023. Stay tuned to DiscoverAuto for the latest automotive news and reviews.
